Yes. GPS uses satellites, not cell towers. Your phone receives GPS signals anywhere with a view of the sky. Cell service is only needed for internet data, not positioning.
How much storage does the offline database use?
The complete species database uses approximately 150MB. Maps vary by region but typically 50-200MB per area. We recommend downloading over WiFi before your trip.
What happens to my pins when I get service again?
Everything syncs automatically. Pins, photos, and notes upload to your cloud backup as soon as you're connected. Nothing is lost.
Can I share my spots with others offline?
Not directly offline, but you can export your data to share later. We're working on local peer-to-peer sharing for future updates.
Does offline mode work on both iOS and Android?
Yes. Full offline functionality is available on both platforms. Core features work identically across devices.
How accurate is GPS without internet?
Equally accurate. GPS accuracy (typically 3-5 meters) is determined by satellite signals, not internet. Your position is just as precise offline as online.
