Works Offline. AI Safety Checks Included.
47 reported mushroom poisonings and 4 deaths in North America last year — most from misidentification in the field. Mushroom Tracker's confidence-scored AI ID and private GPS pins work deep in the backcountry where there's no cell service.
No Cell Service Required
No Service? No Problem.
Track mushrooms offline with full GPS tracking, species database, and photo logging deep in the backcountry.
- Create and access GPS pins without internet

- Capture photos and notes — syncs when back in range
How Offline Mode Works
Download Before You Go
While connected to WiFi, download the species database and maps for your target region.
Forage Anywhere
GPS works via satellite. Create pins, take photos, and log finds with zero internet connection.
Auto-Sync When Back
Return to service and everything syncs automatically. Photos, pins, and notes backed up to cloud.
AI Safety Scoring — Even When You're Off-Grid
Most mushroom ID apps require cloud connectivity to run their AI. Mushroom Tracker's confidence-scored safety engine runs entirely on your device — no bars required.
On-Device AI ID
Confidence-scored identification compares your photo against the full offline species database — no signal needed.
Safety Alerts Offline
Deadly lookalike warnings, toxin categories, and edibility status surface instantly — even at 10,000 ft with no cell service.
Private Pins
Every GPS pin is stored only on your device. Your spots stay private even when offline sync is pending.
Offline Capability Comparison
Not all foraging apps work the same offline. Here's how we compare (see our full 7-app comparison for the complete field test):

Built for Real Foraging Conditions
Remote Wilderness
Burn morel hunting in BC Interior, remote National Forest areas, or Alaska - places where cell service doesn't exist.
Dense Forest Canopy
Thick forest coverage can block cell signals. GPS still works because it uses satellite positioning.
Mountain Valleys
Valleys and canyons often have no cell coverage. Perfect chanterelle and porcini habitat, terrible for internet.
Multi-Day Trips
Extended backcountry expeditions where you're away from service for days at a time.
자주 묻는 질문
Does GPS work without cell service?
Yes. GPS uses satellites, not cell towers. Your phone receives GPS signals anywhere with a view of the sky. Cell service is only needed for internet data, not positioning.
How much storage does the offline database use?
The complete species database uses approximately 150MB. Maps vary by region but typically 50-200MB per area. We recommend downloading over WiFi before your trip.
What happens to my pins when I get service again?
Everything syncs automatically. Pins, photos, and notes upload to your cloud backup as soon as you're connected. Nothing is lost.
Can I share my spots with others offline?
Not directly offline, but you can export your data to share later. We're working on local peer-to-peer sharing for future updates.
Does offline mode work on both iOS and Android?
Yes. Full offline functionality is available on both platforms. Core features work identically across devices.
How accurate is GPS without internet?
Equally accurate. GPS accuracy (typically 3-5 meters) is determined by satellite signals, not internet. Your position is just as precise offline as online.
