Understanding the Price Gap

You'll notice harvesters receive $7-15/lb while retail prices reach $25-50/lb. This 300-700% markup covers sorting, cleaning, cold chain logistics, spoilage loss (15-25%), and retailer margins. Selling direct-to-consumer through our marketplace can help you capture more value.

How to Find Buyers

Restaurant Direct Sales

All Regions

Many restaurants prefer buying direct from foragers. Approach chefs with samples during slow service hours (2-4pm). Bring proper packaging and be prepared to discuss species, sourcing location (general area), and availability.

Farmers Markets

All Regions

Sell direct to consumers at local farmers markets. Requires vendor permit and often food safety certification. Highest margins but requires time investment.

Buying Stations (BC)

British Columbia - Terrace, Prince George, Kamloops

Mobile buying stations operate during peak season. Cash transactions, prices fluctuate daily based on quality and market demand. Check local forestry community boards for locations.
