We built Mushroom Tracker for foragers who understand that some locations are meant to stay private. Your spots never leave your device unless you choose to share them.
Every experienced forager knows the pain: you share a productive location on social media or with the wrong person, and within weeks it's picked clean. Overharvesting has made some species locally extinct.
Social media and location-tagging apps have accelerated this problem. Places where wild plants like ramps used to grow abundantly have been decimated. Chanterelle patches that produced for decades are gone. This isn't just about losing "your" spots - it's about sustainable foraging for everyone.
Your exact coordinates are stored locally on your device. No cloud upload unless you explicitly enable it. We can't see your spots because we don't have them.
When you choose to share, we blur location to a 1km radius. Others see the general area without your exact pin. Enough to help, not enough to burn.
Share specific spots with specific people. Your foraging buddy gets access to the chanterelle patch. The general public sees nothing.
Unlike other apps, we don't require cloud backup. Your data stays on your device. Optional encrypted cloud backup for your own convenience.
GDPR-compliant data handling. Request deletion of any data we do hold at any time. Your data, your control, always.
We don't analyze your locations to find patterns. We don't sell data to buyers or researchers. Your foraging habits are your business.
You control exactly how much you share:
All data stored locally on device only. No cloud sync, no sharing, no data leaves your phone. Perfect for serious foragers who want zero footprint.
Local storage plus optional encrypted cloud backup for your own access. If you lose your phone, you don't lose years of spot data. Nobody else can access it.
Share specific pins with invited friends. They see what you allow, nothing more. You can revoke access anytime.
Contribute to community science with blurred location data. Species sightings shared at 1-10km radius - enough for research, too vague to burn spots.

"If you find a good spot, don't tag it on social media. Seasoned foragers are wary of sharing for good reason."- Advice commonly shared in foraging communities
Public by default. Your observations go on a global map. GPS coordinates visible to researchers and the public. Great for citizen science, terrible for keeping spots secret.
Even "friends only" posts get shared, screenshotted, and spread. Geotagged photos reveal locations through metadata. No real privacy controls.
Most require cloud accounts. Your waypoints sync to company servers. Often terms of service allow data analysis. Not built with forager privacy in mind.
Purpose-built for foragers. Local-first storage. Optional encrypted backup. Approximate sharing. We understand why privacy matters to foragers.
All pins stored in encrypted SQLite database on your device. Standard smartphone encryption protects at rest.
We use analytics for app usage (button clicks, feature usage) but never analyze where you forage.
If you enable cloud backup, data is encrypted client-side before upload. We hold the encrypted blob but not the key.
Export your data in standard formats (CSV, GPX) anytime. Your data is never locked in our ecosystem.
Download Mushroom Tracker and start building your private foraging logbook. Your locations stay on your device unless you decide otherwise.
