Description

Indigo Milk Cap has striking INDIGO-BLUE cap (5-15 cm), fading to grayish or greenish with age. Gills blue, close. Stem blue. KEY: DARK INDIGO-BLUE LATEX (milk) when cut - unmistakable! Latex and flesh slowly stain green. Entire mushroom is blue. Spore print cream. One of most distinctive mushrooms.

Habitat & Distribution

Habitat: Mycorrhizal with hardwoods and PINES in southeastern US, Mexico. Grows on ground in mixed forests, oak-pine. Scattered or groups. Common in southern forests.

Summer through fall (June-November), long fruiting season in warm climates.
