Description

Rosy Russula has red to pinkish-red cap (5-15 cm), often fading. Gills yellowish. Stem white with pink tones. KEY: RED CAP, YELLOW GILLS, BRITTLE FLESH, large size. Flesh white. Spore print yellow-ochre. Mild taste.

Habitat & Distribution

Habitat: Mycorrhizal with conifers, especially pine and spruce. Grows on ground in coniferous forests, especially northern bogs and wet areas. Scattered.

Region: Northeast, Upper Midwest, Canada, Northern Europe

Seasonality

Summer through fall (July-September).
