Description

The Flirt has pinkish-brown to vinaceous cap (5-12 cm), often with darker center. Cap margin has RADIAL STRIATIONS (grooves). Gills white to cream. Stem white, tinged pink. KEY: BRITTLE CHALKY FLESH, NO LATEX, MILD TASTE, peeling cuticle. Flesh white. Spore print white.

Habitat & Distribution

Habitat: Mycorrhizal with hardwoods, especially oak and beech. Grows on ground in deciduous forests. European species, common. Groups or scattered.

Region: Europe, Eastern US (introduced)

Seasonality

Summer through fall (July-October).
